| Weizmann Science Park, Ness Ziona, Israel, November 10, 2008 Kamada (TASE:KMDA), a biopharmaceutical company engaged in the development, manufacturing and marketing of specialty life-saving therapeutics, announced today that it has signed a long-term supply agreement with a multi-national company for the raw material required to manufacture AAT (alpha-1-antitrypsin), Kamada's flagship product which is administered intravenously (IV) or by inhalation.
This agreement guarantees Kamada a steady supply of raw material that meets the international standards set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and European Medicines Agency. The suppliers are also required to meet the highest standards of production and manufacturing control.
Kamadas Chief Executive Officer, David Tsur, stated This agreement will further secure Kamadas control over the entire production cycle for AAT. A continuous supply of raw material will allow Kamada to move forward with its BLA filing for IV AAT in the U.S. next year, its ongoing strategic marketing discussions and its future plans to bring its next generation, inhaled AAT, to patients with severe respiratory diseases such as alpha-1 deficiency, cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis.
IV AAT is used to treat alpha-1 deficiency, a hereditary disease which can lead to emphysema. Kamadas product has successfully completed Phase III clinical trials in the U.S. Kamada is also developing an inhaled formulation of AAT for the treatment of alpha-1 deficiency, cystic fibrosis (CF) and bronchiectasis, currently undergoing advanced clinical trials.
